Welcome to Chesapeake on the Cheap!

Living frugally has been a subject of much interest to housewives for years. It used to be that we lived near our families and even as adults had the opportunity to learn from them. The industrial age changed all that and since trains first became common families have migrated around the country, and Mom and Aunt Ruth are no longer around the corner.

Particularly during the depression, frugal living became essential and many wonderful recipes and ideas were created and shared. But the women's lib movement, which encouraged women out of the home and into the workplace, caused a shift in priorities. Learning to cook or run a home were no longer considered noble efforts and gradually the art of homemaking has been obliterated.

Now we see families trying to get back to a traditional home environment where there is a parent home with the kids. Depending on the family and the circumstances, this may even mean that dad stays home instead of mom.

So, now both men and women are trying to re-learn the lessons that, in days gone by, were commonly taught to women as they grew up and prepared to marry and raise a family.

In addition to being a site dedicated to living a frugal lifestyle, "Chesapeake on the Cheap" focuses on making the most of your money in Chesapeake, Virginia. The site is divided up into spending categories, with easy access through the links on the left.

The beauty of frugal living is that you stay in control of your finances and that relieves a lot of stress. Cutting out wasteful spending also allows you to accumulate wealth. And, as you will see, frugal living doesn't mean living without luxuries! Far from it, you'll have the money and the freedom to choose what's important to you.
